Bloat is a common disease in deep-chested dogs that can involve twisting of the stomach resulting in blockage of the esophagus and intestine. Happens quickly and can be fatal if not treated.
Mast Cell Tumors
Malignant and often rapidly spreading nodular skin tumors. Inheritance: unknown.
Born with improper nerve covering; tremors and incoordination. May improve and even be normal by one year of age. Similar to Parkinson’s in humans with the difference that dogs are able to regenerate myelin sheathing in time.
Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD)
Painful, swollen joints and bones; fever. May outgrow but often left with bone deformities. Thought to be an autoimmune reaction to initial puppy vaccines. See WCA policy on vaccines. Quick treatment is essential for a positive outcome. Inheritance: unknown.
